About Pleasure Activism Australia

Pleasure Activism Australia is a not-for-profit community group for sex-positive, pro-feminist people of any gender who believe in advocating consensual sexual pleasure for adults and who believe in the power of consensual sexuality to transform our society. We are inspired by people such as Annie Sprinkle, Carol Queen, Betty Dodson and Tristan Taormino. To quote Dossie Easton and Catherine Liszt in The Ethical Slut:

[W]e believe that sex and sexual love are fundamental forces for good --- activities with the potential to strengthen intimate bonds, enhance lives, create spiritual awareness, even change the world. And, furthermore, we believe that all consensual sexual choices have these potentials --- that any sexual pathway, consciously chosen and mindfully followed, can be a positive, creative force in the lives of individuals and their communities.

Pleasure Activism Australia also seeks to bring together activists working towards acceptance of sexual diversity - such as in the areas of queer issues, polyamory, bdsm and swinging - and build alliances based on the idea that those of us doing such work often face common issues and challenges, and could thus help both our goals and ourselves by supporting each other.

Finally, Pleasure Activism Australia is a place where sluts and whores can find refuge from the judgemental, sex-negative attitudes that are often found in other communities based around particular sexual or relationship orientations.
